adventures in CSS

December 15, 2006

i’m trying to figure out this whole flickr/blog combo thing that eli has recently introduced me to via shaming me over photos uploaded via wordpress. i have to admit, flickr amazes me more and more each time i use it. but my challenge today was to tweak the coding (is that was nerds call it?) that makes the photo appear in the blog while not having unnecessary titles and links. i jumped on this challenge and managed to solve the problem pretty quickly. looking at all that nonsense is usually pretty daunting. but then i just started thinking of it as a english expressed in a another, very straight-forward way. i could look at the words and see what was creating each aspect of the photo. then it was simply a matter of trial and error to get keep what i wanted and eliminate what i didn’t. i have to admit, it was kinda fun. i’m comfortable giving myself a point for this one.

  1. i love it, pete! absolutely love it. so now i have another challenge for you (if you choose to accept it), and this one will challenge your skills even more. your test is to see if you can match the style of the photos on my blog, like this one:

see that subtle coloring around the photo? and that dark, but not black, thin border? that’s nice isn’t it? i’ll give you a hint (3 in fact): border, padding, and background-color. i have faith in you.
